Society Hall Welcomes the Poetic Americana of Texas/New Mexico Artist Randy Lewis Brown!

10/11/25, 1:30 AM
Songwriter and poetic lyricist Randy Lewis Brown was born in Louisiana, spending his childhood in pre-civil rights Shreveport, immersed in the formative strictures and music of the church. He discovered a new world when, at twelve, his family moved to Houston. It was there, as he grew to adulthood, that he began to connect with and make music in a deeper sense. Having grown up in both Louisiana and Texas, Randy Lewis Brown’s tales are those of hard resignation with the occasional dappled sunlight of wounded optimism shining through. You might say Randy Lewis Brown’s songs are as windswept as his heart. Having been tapped to open for Ray Wylie Hubbard, David Olney, Jim Lauderdale and more, Randy Lewis Brown has played across the country -- extensively through Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana -- including to multiple festivals like Tommy Alverson’s Family Gathering and the South Florida Folk Festival.
During his formative years in Texas, he was offered a $10 guitar and lessons for $1 a week by an older teen in the church, and he was instantly and irrevocably hooked. By 14, he was a budding songwriter and went on to form bands all throughout his teen years, dedicating himself in earnest to songwriting, even delivering lyrics in high school English class. A few years later, moving to East Texas with his bride to start a family where most of the counties were dry and the bars to host gigs were few and far between, Randy Lewis Brown began hightailing it across Texas on the weekends to as many welcoming stages as he could find. After forming a duo with John DeFoore, and then adding cellist Dirje Childs to form the trio Jealousy Motel, he eventually shifted focus to solo projects, although Dirje Childs reappears on his newest album.
Randy Lewis Brown sets his lyrical poetry to Americana music. His most recent full album project is “Wind of Change”, released in 2022 on Berkalin Records. Says Randy about his latest, "If I have learned anything in my short time on earth, it is that change is all there is. Nothing ever remains the same for long. Each song presented here, in its own way is about change; birth, aging, death, disappointment, beginnings, endings and every other little thing that reminds us we are not in control."
Brown has been a repeat winner of songwriting awards over more than two decades: including: Winner: The New Traditions Award (2007); Winner: TIME Songwriting Competition (2009); Winner: Poor David’s BW Stevenson Songwriter Contest (2014); Winner: FTR Willows by Water (2017); Winner: South Florida Folk Festival (2018); Winner: Woody Guthrie Songwriting Contest (2021); Finalist: Kerrville New Folk (2021); Finalist: Great RIver Folk Fest Finalist (2021); Finalist: Texas Troubadour Songwriter Classic & Peoples Choice Winner (2024); and Finalist: Rocky Mountain Folks Fest Songwriter Showcase (2025).
The board of Society Hall, a 501c-3 non-profit organization, invites you to another wonderful musical evening with Randy Lewis Brown, Friday October 10th at 7:30 pm. Doors will open at 6:30. Tickets are $20.00 and are available at the link below or in Alamosa at the Green Spot. Come see our new porch! Society Hall – Where Community Celebrates!
Society Hall Welcomes a Doubleheader of Nashville Songwriters with Grace Pettis and Natalie Price!

10/27/25, 1:30 AM
In a double dose of singer-songwriter prowess, Grace Pettis and Natalie Price join forces for an evening of cathartic, introspective music full of “heartache, loss, and reflection,” yet still infused with “the great joy of performing,” according to one critic.
Grace Pettis’ music is described as a little bit of folk, a little bit of country/Americana, and a whole lot of soul. She’s the winner of many of the nation’s most prestigious songwriting contests, grants, and residencies, including NPR’s Mountain Stage NewSong Contest, The Buddy Holly Educational Foundation, and The Helene Wurlitzer Foundation of New Mexico. Grace’s songs have been recorded by other esteemed artists, including Sara Hickman and Ruthie Foster, with three co-writes on Foster's Grammy-nominated album, Healing Time (2024).Her upcoming album, Down to the Letter, captures the Nashville-based singer-songwriter at the peak of her songwriting powers, chronicling the reclamation of self after betrayal.
Grace was an official showcasing artist at SXSW and Folk Alliance International in 2024. She has independently released three acclaimed records and signed with MPress Records in 2020. Her debut album on Mpress, Working Woman (2021), was produced by lauded singer-songwriter Mary Bragg, mixed by two-time Grammy® Award winner Shani Gandhi (Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical), and featured an all-female/non-binary band and creative credits. Guest contributions came from Indigo Girls, Ruthie Foster, Dar Williams, and other luminaries.
Natalie Price was raised in a strict, religious, less-than-musical household, and her songwriting is largely self-taught, reflecting the undiluted, pure love of the craft. “She’s following her own songwriting compass” says tour-mate Grace Pettis, “[she’s] not influenced by what anybody else is doing.” One thing is clear, she’s intoxicatingly authentic and wholly original – you’ll never forget when you stepped into Natalie’s world.
Texas-born, Nashville-based Natalie Price is a singer-songwriter whose music blends Americana, indie folk, and melodic pop in what she calls “Ameri-kinda.” Her self-titled full-length album, Natalie Price (2023), produced by acclaimed artist Mary Bragg, showcases her confessional songwriting and wide emotional range—from introspective ballads to catchy, pop rock anthems. The album has garnered praise for its authenticity and cinematic depth, positioning her as a compelling new voice. Her 2025 single “Monday & Tuesday” dives into the bliss of newfound love with earworm melodies and slow-burn tension, marking a continued evolution of her sound. With a gift for transforming deeply personal experiences into songs that feel universal, Natalie is quickly becoming a fan favorite.
